Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Silhouette to be named by travel industry executive Michelle Morgan

Michelle Morgan - Celebrity Silhouette Godmother
Today, Celebrity Cruises announced that Michelle Morgan, CTC, the highly regarded president and CEO of Signature Travel Network, will serve as Godmother of Celebrity Silhouette. The first travel industry executive to serve as Godmother of a Celebrity ship, Morgan will preside over the line’s first naming ceremony to be held in Hamburg, Germany, on July 21, 2011.

Like her mother – and each of Celebrity’s exceptional Solstice Class Godmothers – Morgan, too, has courageously battled breast cancer. She shares Celebrity Cruises’ devotion to the breast cancer cause, and leads Signature’s participation in the travel industry’s breast cancer awareness month in October.

“Michelle Morgan personifies all of the qualities we seek in our Solstice Class Godmothers: remarkable strength and courage in both her professional and personal life, along with optimism, warmth and a very engaging personality, all of which have made her so admired throughout the industry,” said Celebrity Cruises President and CEO Dan Hanrahan.

Cruise Lines Update Smoking Policies

Carnival Cruise Lines, Holland America Line and Princess Cruises are rolling out significant changes to their smoking policies.  Princess is also banning smoking on cabin balconies, while Carnival and HAL will continue to allow smoking on their balconies.  Carnival’s changes go into effect as of Dec. 1 sailings, while the HAL and Princess changes not until sailings after Jan. 15.

Carnival also implemented new public room smoking policies: cigarette smoking in public areas will be permitted only in dance clubs, designated areas within the casino and casino bar, certain sections on the open decks on all ships, as well as in the jazz clubs on 13 of their ships.  Carnival cited the changes due to passenger preferences.

Law Suit Filed Against Carnival Cruise Lines

Environmental groups started legal action against Carnival Cruise Lines today.  According to a press release, the suit claims, “large cruise ship operations in the heart of the city’s historic district run afoul of local zoning ordinances, snarl traffic by closing downtown streets, and violate state environmental permitting laws.”  The suit also claims that Carnival is discharging waste into South Carolina waters without permits.
